Top Mountain Bikes
It can be a real challenge looking for the top mountain bikes. With many having their own proprietary parts and accessories you have to do a lot of searching to find the right mountain bike at the right price. As you look around the website you will notice that I have narrowed down the field of what we consider to be the top mountain bikes based on quality, durability and price. They are in no particular order but you can search each mountain bike category to find one that fits your budget and your needs. Each mountain bike is guaranteed and backed by the power of Amazon so you can be confident in your purchase.
Here is the list of our top mountain bikes.
I have included three things you can look for in a mountain bike to make your decision easier. There is a lot more involved and is beyond the full scope of this article.
1. Price
2. Frame
3. Brakes
Price:
If you are looking for the top mountain bikes then you can expect the price to be a bit more than your run of the mill mountain bike. Before you even start to look figure out how much you are willing to pay for the bike. Some of the best mountain bikes can run into the thousands with a good medium range bike running anywhere from $450 to $900. That really isn't a lot when you compare it to the cost of fixing and replacing a cheap mountain bike because it wouldn't hold up for very long. Sometimes it is much better to pay a little more in the beginning and avoid the cost in the future.
Frame:
The top mountain bikes have the best frames. The quality that sets them apart are in the design and production of the frame. If you have ever looked at a cheap mountain bike you will notice the lack of expertise in regards to the welds on the frame. If the welds stand out to you than chances are that you are looking at a cheap frame. If the welds seem to flow and are not the first thing you notice about the frame then chances are you are looking at a good frame. As a beginner you may want to consider buying a "hardtail" (a bike with only front suspension) or even a bike that is rigid, which has no suspension fork. I prefer a mountain bike that has a full suspension, which means there is a shock system on both the front and rear of the mountain bike. These will be more expensive but are well worth the cost.
Brakes:
Obviously the top mountain bikes have the best brakes. The decision you have to make is whether to use disk brakes or rim brakes. You will get the best braking with disk brakes but the cost will be a bit higher. Rim brakes offer a lighter, lower cost alternative but you will sacrifice some performance particularly in wet conditions.
